Relationships: The YOU Intervention
This Module is the second of three focused on the element of Relationships (R) within the RISE framework. The Relationships section is defined as the elements for engaging in authentic relationships rooted in emotional intelligence. This learning module covers The YOU Intervention.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will learn the importance of cultivating personal insight to offer a centered expression of self within the field of youth care work. Participants will reflect on their own personality traits, values, and preferences and how they show up within their professional work. Participants will understand how to apply self-awareness and reflections to help elevate their ability to have healthy relationships with clients and others.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify specific reasons it is important for professionals in youth care field to increase self-awareness
- Identify key triggers, assumptions, bias you have and how they influence your relationship with youth
- Use assessment tools and exploration to cultivate your own EQ within helping relationships
- Describe key practices for professionals to use for continued development of compassion resilience

Tonya earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work with a minor in Family Studies from University of Northern Iowa in 2007, and her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mount Mercy University in 2012.
Tonya has served in a variety of positions and programs in the social services field including inpatient, community based, school based, prevention and outpatient care with her current role being the Vice President of Clinical Services at Tanager Place.
Tonya is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Registered Play Therapist and Certified Trauma Practitioner. Tonya has advanced training in Theraplay, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Sand Tray and Play Therapy. Tonya is an adjunct professor through Mount Mercy University and has been published for knowledge related to trauma and resilience. Tonya developed the RISE: Wellness and Resilience Framework and has provided a variety of speaking events related to leadership, trauma, resilience and working with children and families in the mental health field.
