Supporting the Next Seven Generations in CYC practice: An Indigenous perspective to CYC work
This course will share Indigenous Canadian history to provide context as to the issues that contribute to the complexities of Indigenous people and their communities. This presentation will share the importance of knowledge about Indigenous pedagogies and ideologies, which contribute to a supportive cultural understanding while working with Indigenous young people and communities.
- Expand awareness of the factors to consider when working with Indigenous people;
- Learn about Canadian history as it applies to Indigenous People's experience;
- Develop sensitivity to Indigenous pedagogies and ideologies which impact delivery of CYC services and support;

Dyan is Indigenous from Wikwemikoong Reserve in Ontario, Canada. She has a Bachelors of Arts and a Masters of Arts in Child and Youth Care, and has been
in the field for fifteen years. She's worked in a number of sectors
including the education system, residential and post secondary system. She currently works in a school that has one of the highest Indigenous
populations in Toronto and has supported this school for seven years. She delivered a number of professional development sessions to educators on supporting indigenous young people and families.
She has two boys she is raising in
