Growing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and the Belonging Mindset in Child and Youth Care

Inclusion, diversity, equity, and belonging is a critical mindset needed in a therapeutic milieu. Organizations with a diverse and inclusive team will promote wellbeing and positive outcomes. Clarification of terms and definitions will dispel confusion. Participants will revisit basic terminology. Inclusive leadership and creating a safe space for all in the therapeutic milieu will be key. Participants will confront racism and its symptoms like microaggressions and disrespect. This session will be interactive-intensive.

Learning Objectives:
  • Participants will be able to explain terminology of inclusion, diversity, equity and belonging.
  • Awareness of familial and dispositional racism will be discussed.
  • Participants will be challenged to end racial slurs, microaggressions and disrespect
  • Participants will be challenged to think about what they need to learn and understand and accept about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
